         Sergio was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico to his father Jose and mother Maria on December 12th of 1996. Sergio was raised by his mother Maria in one of the worst districts of San Juan, San Juan Antiguo, also known as “Old San Juan”. Maria worked two jobs in an attempt to support her and her son. Jose was married and had another son, besides Sergio, named Jorge. Maria never told Sergio who his father was because she was ashamed of what she had done. Maria was a single mom and Jose was married to Melissa, the mother of Jorge. Jorge and Sergio grew up together as close friends but had no clue they were related. Maria was always working and barely supervised Sergio so he got into a lot of trouble with his friend, and half brother, Jorge. They both attended the same schools along with their cousin Darryl up until High School. The trio misbehaved in school and were yelled at often. Sergio got into a lot of fights defending his mouthy brother Jorge who often spoke out of line. Sergio earned the name “Gorilla” for his overly aggressive behavior along with his size that gave him an advantage in fights. Sergio would hang around local gang members of “Old San Juan” where they encouraged him to commit petty crimes like robbery, stealing, and fighting. Jorge moved to Los Santos along with Darryl and Darryl’s mother Gabriella leaving behind Sergio and the rest of their family. With his closest friends leaving him the only friends he had were the teenaged gang members of San Juan. One of the gang members named “Pedro” worked at his parents tattoo parlor and offered to do a tattoo for Sergio. Sergio accepted the offer and got “Gorilla” tattooed across his chest formally adopting his nickname. Maria didn’t know about Sergio’s friends until he was brought home by the police for a huge brawl between two gangs that he had participated in. She tried to help Sergio and guide him in the right direction but he was determined to become a gang member like his “friends” were. Sergio’s involvement in the local gang scene of San Juan increased as he aged and brought horrible consequences to him. He had robbed a rival gang member with several other people and the rivals had found out where Sergio lived. While he was away from home, his mother Maria was inside asleep. The rival gang members sprayed the house in a drive by that had killed Maria. When Sergio came home and found his mother he was shocked, he had not expected it. Sergio, fearing for his life, gathered what ever money his mother had and decided he’d move to Los Santos where his Aunt was. Left without a family and no way for him to survive alone in San Juan he gathered his belongings and moved to his Aunts.
